I wanted to say thank you. Thank you for Games Workshop for this immensely rewarding hobby that has taught me so much more than I could have ever imagined, given me amazing friends and memories, so much excitement and childlike joy over the years (decades).
Thank you to all of you readers who’ve helped turn Iron Sleet exactly the kind of little hobby corner we dreamt of when setting off beginning fo the year.
Sharing pictures of the finished Sentinel and some old friends today. I have taken them with the iPhone, with just natural light to show some of the differences in schemes and hues and impact. (Unfortunately the Shaddes Offe Greye looks washed up – but I guess they sort of are…)
And a few words about adjustment and reversing direction when necessary. The Sentinel in it’s golden glory was turning too golden, eating away the impact fo the Inquisitor, so several areas were painted different to plan and the gold was left slightly toned down. More drastically, the remaining three (4) models have no gold on them, AT ALL. A midway adjustment to save the impact (and challenge), and have clever, tasteful ways of completely making orange and chrome dance with green and gold in harmony, much like that cover painting.

This is phenomenal! The retinue growing really compliments the Inquisitor’s golden radiance. Sentinel’s paintjob is so crisp and spot on and the plan concerning the way painting the rest sounds just right. Nice to see new photos of the Bad and the Ugly too.

Thank you Slmnn. I hope we are right. There is some intimidation to fiddle with something that works midway, but don’t want things to be too stale and the Lord needs to stand out.

And thank you Migs for giving us all in the Ethersphere so much inspiration for our own hobby ventures! I am a huge admirer of your work. It was actually Tears of Istvaan that was the turning point for me, blew my mind, made me re-examine everything.

Great pic of the Golden Inquisitor, the paint job is just brilliant.
My favourite of the group so far is the Interrogator, the green coat offsets his metallics really nicely.
Though for me, the first Alpharius will always be my absolute favourite of your wonderful pieces – it was that moonlight blue paintjob and the subtle construction of the ‘true-scale’ Astartes that drew me back into this hobby, and for that I thank you.

The Group shots of the retinues are really very beautiful .. Since you are giving out thanks , I should thank you and the the other Iron Sleeters for the continuous stream of 40k of aspirational Inspiration .. The work your group outputs is always interesting challenging and technically brilliant .. 🙂
the Golden inquisitor is a perfectly stunning example of a archetypal 40k trope .

Thank you also, Migs. For great inspiration and drive. Looking forward to seeing the little warband come together fully. I like the way that you go in and adjust models for the group to match eachother in the bigger picture. It breaks that arty feel about miniatures – they are works of art, no doubt – but while they might be finished, the option to revisit them is certainly there.
Maybe an interesting approach would be to work on the characters by revisiting them and adding age, weathering as you develop the story. For instance I might revisit my Imperial Knight painted last year and put on additional battle damage, honoury seals and shields. That would be a fun way of creating stories…

Thanks Jakob!! In away, Silas is the mother of all repaints… as I had painted him totally dull and boring and technically decent, and decided it was a disaster and just took of in a crazy moment with nothing but reds, inks, washes, paints, all over without letting things dry… 🙂
