+ Vitrovian Lighthouses +

Palazzo di Vitrovii is the floating epicenter of the Vitrovian glass empire.

Like a shimmering shard of vitrified rockcrete it reaches both vertically down through the dense depths of Venus’ sulfurous atmosphere and upwards into the semi-transparent haze of the planets mesosphere.

Its glittering spires glowing like Vitrovian lighthouses in the Venutian sky.

When Iron Sleet first launched our collaborative game Ynqvisitor in 2020, we took a deep dive into narrative gaming like we had not done before. Kicking off Ynqvisitor, we presented our vision of Venus and its relation to our previous narrative games as well as official Games Workshop lore.

Venus plays host to a wide variety of luxury resort orbitals and floating gardens, all intended to help the elite on Terra find respite and relaxation. Because of its harsh surface conditions Venutian palaces are floating in the dense and sulphureous atmosphere of the planet. Some are as large as hive cities, separated and interconnected from each other by lesser Venutian cities, villas, cloud canals and sky bridges.

As Iron Sleet is now taking a deep dive into Ynqvisitor and Venus once again – and as I want to celebrate the return of light and todays Winter Solstice – here are a few work-in-progress Lightkeepers from Palazzo di Vitrovii.

Lightkeepers are some of the most revered servants in the Glass Palace. They are responsible for keeping Vitrovian lighthouses alight, their shimmering spyre beacons guiding visitors to one of the thousand red gates of Palazzo di Vitrovii, where one is greeted by an entourage of floating servants. Unlike visitors, the servants are not allowed to walk on the red-stained glass floors of the Glass Palace.

These are just the first few of a series of Vitrovian Lightkeepers, who carry a wide assortment of tools and equipment necessary to maintain the Vitrovian lighthouse beacons; Prometheum cannisters, fire throwers, lighting poles, ladders, ignition lamps, Vitrovian seals and iron masks…

  1. Inspired, I love it. Evocative, mysterious, slightly surreal, aesthetically pleasing, well balanced. The only thing that jars slightly for me is the sword held by the lamplighter.

    1. Thank you Mike! I am glad you like them. Good call on the sword. I kept it as I thought it helped on the floating feel of the mini. But I will reconsider and keep you updated. Thanks!
