The Crataegus Legion Army List

And hail and rain does blaw;
Or the stormy north sends driving forth
The blinding sleet and snaw:
While, tumbling brown, the burn comes down,
And roars frae bank to brae;
And bird and beast in covert rest,
And pass the heartless day.

Winter is coming!

To celebrate that I have finally finished the Green Kyngge, one of the main characters of the Green Mechanicvm, I have made the army list for the Crataegus Legion, which I will bring with me to the Thorn Moons Crusade. Using Tyranids and Thousand Sons rules!

The Crataegus Legion will be built up around three factions, which hopefully will be expanded after the Thorn Moons Crusade. But this list is the goal for the games this summer. The three factions cover the three different narratives that make up the history and background of the Crataegus Legion and their boreal home in Crataegus Fragmentum;

(1) The Coven of the Elder Ones, (2) the Courts of the Green Mechanicvm and (3) the Linnæanne Brothers of Neith.

If people are interested in learning more about Crataegus Fragmentum and the Thorn Moon Legion I have written extensive background narratives on Iron Sleet for all three factions during both the Pilgrym and the build-up to the Thorn Moons Crusade.

Most of the army has been built, some of it still needs to be painted and a small part still needs to be both built and painted. With the Green Kyngge and five Borealis Sentinels for Radix Arborea Sixten Vreeswijk just done I am getting there. When finished the Crataegus Legion will consist of 65 models in total – at the minimum! I will hopefully be able to add a small court for Sverre Arrheniusse too. After all, he recently returned to the Thorn Moons with sacred relics from the Throne World. But that will be second priority.

I have finished 26 miniatures including Othalanga – the incredible Elder One given to me by the Wier Brothers (be sure to check out their website!).

I have built but still need to paint 18 miniatures: Sixten Vreeswijk (this guy is seriously big – very intimidating, but he will be the centerpiece of the army), 15 Borealis Sentinels (these are fast!), Svante Ambrosiusse and Pater Fredrik Carolus Linnæus XVIth.

I still need to build and paint 21 miniatures! 6 Thorn Guards10 Thorn Maidens, 1 Satyrian Court Guardian and four Elder Ones (Oghamme, Pyrocanthe, Straiph and Shagarth).

Much to do, but right now it seems manageable…

From Throne to Thorne!

  1. It is awesome to see your plan for creating an army list! This army is quite an undertaking, but you have already done a fantastic job and finished a lot of models! Best of all, there is still so much room to continue to develop the Thorn Moons and all their denizens.

  2. So so so so soooo excited about this. I think one of my greatest contributions to the hobby lore is to have helped establish and push the creation of a full army of the Crataegus Legion. Gorgeous work Stefan.

    1. Thanks a lot mate 🙂

      The Vlka Fenryka is still one of my favourite 40K armies as it broke ground on so many levels…I am just continuing that process by standing on the shoulders of giants (literally). I hope to return to the Elder Ones in earnest when the Crusade is over…if they survive the coming onslaught of Winter!

  3. Jesus Christ…. If there is ANYTHING that translate to me the grim dark of Warhammer is this website and your work. This is so unbelievable!!! Thank you so much for sharing!

  4. Wow! I really enjoy seeing this project develop, I think they are getting better and better. Your whole organic treeish and ancient vibe is very inspiring to me. That was part of the inspiration behind my own gritty and rusty Swamps of Axxos project. I am looking forward to see your army in all its organic glory when it is done. 😊
