The Dead

Spirit of the Ghost

You who wonder in the aether

You who stalk in the shadows

You who lead

Between the moss covered trees

Lend me your primal power

and the wisdom of your countless heads

Show me the hidden path and the moonlit way

Fierce wraith

Hunt with me in my solitude

Guard me as I move through this universe

The Emperor Protects,

The ghost legion dives deeper into the spiraling madness of the Thorn Moons Crusade. It’s warriors, hidden for millennia, sleeping a dreamless death state and woken for duty  have gone native, become one with the forest.

This is a turning point for the army – this squad, a dark, black, esoteric group of individual warriors finishes the Astartes portion of the project for the time being. Recognizably related in hues and shades to the previous Ghost Legionnaires, but much more grim and dark, the infiltrator team is the bridge into the children of the Moons, a tribal spin of the Thorn Moons planetary defense forces, with embedded Legion operatives and some Blanhitsu voodoo that is coming next.

I’ve taken this opportunity to show where the army is at with a great overcast day to shoot some iPhone camera magic.

So here you go!

  1. Brilliant army. The slightly darker aspect works very well for these grim warriors and the army come together as a whole really well. It just looks like it has stepped out of the mist of a forest, and could disappear back at any moment.

    1. Thanks 🙂 Starting with black prime, I airbrush black green and black blue on, then switch to egg shell like green and pale light blue, and airbrush those in there selectively only from angles light would hit the models, then it’s green and blue oil paint and weathering 🙂 It’s a little more complex than I’d like but looks like if I can finish a unit a month, which isn’t a lot really, I still surprise myself and have an army ready before I noticed.

  2. Bloody lovely stuff! You’ve managed to take models I don’t really like (Reivers) and turned them into something I can’t stop looking at. I love the metallic undersuit showing through.
And that dreadnought is just something else!

  3. Inspirational as always! 😄 I really like the way you’ve made the primaris models look grim and gritty as opposed to the smooth expressions these models have inherently. This is a great example of what can actually be achieved with these models when thinking a little outside the box.

  4. Well I absolutely love these 🙂 I love the added grittyness and survivor-look to them, and they should tee into the more twisted denizens of the Thorn Moons perfectly 🙂

Also I’ve said it before, but the more members of the XX there are in the picture the more it looks like an army of ghosts. A Spirithost made 40k 😉

    Great work 🙂

    1. Thanks. Yes. I’ve hacked together paragraphs of Native American prayer / warrior credo to fit the Legion and ghost narrative / warhammer 40000.
